The most important thing to know: all of your financial data is stored directly in your own iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit — never on any server we operate. We do not have, and technically cannot have, access to the contents of your ledger.
1.Introduction
LedgerShare ("we", "the app") is a family expense-tracking app for iOS. This policy explains how the app handles your data when you use it.
2.Information We Collect
2.1 Financial data you enter
Transactions (date, amount, notes), categories, payment methods, and balances you enter into the app. All of this is stored in CloudKit — a private or shared database tied to your iCloud account, with Apple operating the storage infrastructure.
2.2 Information when sharing a ledger with others
If you invite family members to share a ledger, this feature uses CloudKit's native sharing mechanism (CKShare). The name and Apple ID-linked address of an invited person may be shown to you through Apple's own system sharing screen — this is standard CloudKit behavior, not data LedgerShare itself collects or stores separately.
2.3 App preferences
Language, display currency, and other preferences are stored locally on your device only — not synced via CloudKit, never leaving your device.
3.Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or have access to:
Your financial data or any content you enter into the app
Device identifiers for advertising or tracking purposes
Location, contacts, photos, or any data outside what the app needs
Usage analytics
The app currently does not display advertising. If we integrate advertising in the future, this policy will be updated before that feature launches, specifying what data (if any) is shared with advertising partners.
4.How Your Data is Stored
LedgerShare is built entirely on CloudKit — we do not own or operate any backend server of our own. This means:
Your data lives in your own iCloud account, protected by Apple's security infrastructure
We cannot view, copy, or restore your data — even if you contact us for support
Syncing across your devices, and with shared members, goes through Apple's infrastructure, governed by Apple's own Privacy Policy
5.Sharing Data with Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for commercial purposes. The only party involved in storing your data is Apple, as the iCloud/CloudKit infrastructure provider — not a recipient of data from us.
6.Your Rights and Control
Partial deletion — delete or archive any transaction, payment method, category, or an entire ledger at any time within the app
Delete All Data — the "Delete All Data" option in Settings permanently deletes every ledger you own and leaves every ledger shared with you, in just a few taps
System-level control — since your data lives in your own iCloud, you can also manage or delete it through your device's iCloud Settings
Because we don't retain any copy of your data ourselves, there's no separate "data deletion request" to submit to us beyond what you can already do directly in the app or through iCloud.
7.Children's Privacy
LedgerShare is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
8.Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when the app changes materially (for example, when advertising is integrated). The most recent update date is always shown at the top of this page.
